First DATA

Updated: Jan 28, 2021

Sa3 spend 5 weeks over in Basildon installing new lighting system for first data who required and led upgrade on all lighting within the building which consists of 1800 600x600 panels and various different lights which amounted up to

lights in total.

. Our design team visited the site for various meeting which consisted of planning, risk assessments, dates, times, site compounds and examples of various types of light fittings. Once all the above was agreed with client, all our employees had to go through police check and be signed off by first data which took 6 weeks. We started to order all the light fittings and set a date on which the first load that arrived on the 12 June 2019 were our installation team arrived two days before to set up the site compound, carry out risk assessment and walk through the site with the site manager explaining the method statements which was that we would be working night shift as there will be no employee present at their desk to ensure their safety throughout the project. Each area was set out in the plan that 90 light fittings would be fitted and tested each night and signed off by the maintenance engineer on-site, who completed a quality checklist each section that we passed with no hassle. Our 3 engineers and 4TH year apprentice would be installing the lights, while our other apprentice would be opening up the new light fittings and clearing areas each time. Our on site supervisor would ensure quality control throughout the project and manage the men fir each area. During this project there was some alternation that had to be agreed by the client which was not with our project, they were looking some light switched separate and a room spilt up to allow a new office to be build, we had a job sheet to fill and signed off by the maintenance engineers and emailed straight to client who approved right away so it wouldn’t hold up our progress.

Our lighting design team had a lot to consider when designing new lighting within exterior car parks which has to be covered under the guidance of British Standards BS EN 12464 and BS 5489: 2013. A risk assessment was carried out based on the anticipated vehicle, pedestrian, crime and type of use to determine the lighting category. Car parks can be lit with various different types of lighting, ranging from low level bollard, perimeter mounted columns, bay mounted columns, high mast of flood lights so our team had to decide what type of fitting met our clients need which was sufficient lighting, energy saving, quality, warranty and safest for pedestrian walking and driving. Exterior car parks have three levels of lighting depending on usage, and range from Low, Medium and High. Within all works we carry out we followed the Guidance Notes for the Reduction of Obtrusive light we ensure the right amount of light was directed towards the driveways and none wasted in any other area. We changed 400w metal halide Dome fittings to 150w ASD LED fittings. There were over 60no of these on the project. This particular fitting was designed to ensure the all areas where sufficiently lite and none wasted as on the fitting there is a directional sign 80% of the light is focused toward the arrow and 20% was sufficient for the car park users to see and access yours.

We also had to ensure the lighting wasn’t blinding to the drivers off the vehicles. Our engineers used a boom light to access all light fitting

All light fitting was separated from metal, plastic and fluorescent tubes and the local recycling company collected each week.
